Info Post
The U. S. Senate has voted for new 35 mpg CAFE standards, that experts say will result in 2000 to 4000 additional highway deaths per year. Current deaths due to CAFE standards are estimated to be 2,200/year.

This from a Senate that wants to surrender in Iraq because the death toll of our troops is so appalling.

So the Senate has no stomach for less than 1000 U.S. Soldiers being killed, per year, to defend our country, but have no difficulty with offering 6000 innocent women, children, and men on the altar of environmentalism. All as a direct result of CAFE mandates.

The Spineless Congress lacks the courage to face wacko environmentalists and enact a real Energy Policy Bill.

A great start would be to move the nation toward Synfuel (Coal and Natural Gas converted to liquid fuels).

Shell has already demonstrated that Diesel Synfuel is 90% cleaner that Diesel from petroleum.

The Air Force expects similar results from JP8 (aviation fuel).

So what is the problem? Synfuel may not be the final answer, but it weans us off of OPEC, cleans up the environment, and works with existing distribution systems and engines. Synfuels can fill the gap until something better is found, and do it with out wrecking the food industry or slaughtering thousands of our citizens on the highways.

But the Congress has to be willing to put the 'nations well being' ahead of politics and their fear of losing their precious elected offices.
